PARENT INFORMATION

COMMUNICATION

  • Read bulletins on Thursdays.
  • Sms school when your child is absent – (0834040858)
  • Make appointments through your child's diary. We cannot see you before school unless an appointment has been made. (Unless, it is an emergency!)
  • Report to the office when you need to pick your child up during the day. They must be signed out. This is part of the safe schools' policy.
  • Please return reply slips and letters promptly.
  • Money must be put in a marked envelope.
  • Please inform the school of any personal issues that affect your child.
  • Sign diaries everyday, including Fridays. Check homework bags daily.
  • Readers must be returned everyday as we only have 10 of each. If your child leaves a book at home, the next group will be one book short.
  • Please sign and return classwork books when they are sent home. They must be returned the next day.
  • Please remind your child about the extra-murals they have on a specific day and where they will be fetched afterwards.
  • Tell your child if there is a letter or money in their diary or homework bag. This encourages them to be independent.

UNIFORMS AND BELONGINGS

  • ALL ITEMS OF CLOTHING AND STATIONERY MUST BE MARKED. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE TEACHERS DO NOT HAVE TIME TO GO TO LOST PROPERTY AND LOOK FOR CLOTHING
  • Please put their name tags on their suitcases.
  • Please make sure that they have their own, marked stationery.

TOYS

  • No toys are allowed at school unless they are for display.

BIRTHDAYS

  • Please send something that your child is able to hand out on their own. It's their special day and they enjoy taking responsibility for handing out to their classmates.

TUCKSHOP/MEALS

  • Please only send tuck shop money once a week.
  • Healthy lunchboxes are important. Only put a sweet treat in once a week. We encourage them to eat a sandwich or fruit first.
  • They may not have fizzy drinks at school. Energade should not be sent to school either.
  • Please send a water bottle to school.
  • A healthy breakfast is very important as a hungry child battles to concentrate.

RECYCLING

  • Encourage your child to recycle
  • Please write their points in their homework diaries

SICK LEARNERS

  • Please do not send ill children to school. They cannot focus and they also infect other children.
  • We are not allowed to medicate children.
  • If your child is on daily medication and it must be administered at school, a form must be obtained from the class teacher and signed by you to give the teacher permission to medicate your child.

OUTINGS

  • We go to the Artscape Theatre to watch a production based on one of our class readers.
  • We go to Camps Bay in November for Pirate's Day. Please don't spend a lot of money on an outfit. Use what you have. The children are not allowed in the water. We mark an area out with beacons and they may not go out of that area. We take them to the toilet.
  • We have Egyptian Day in the second term. They dress up as Egyptians and really have an exciting day. We will need moms to help decorate the tomb and the food stall in the hall, closer to the time. The moms also dress up as Egyptians. This day is usually in June.

GENERAL

  • Please will you send goodies for the feelie box once a term, if you are able?
  • Please make sure that they have a cap, towel, underwear and a plastic bag (for wet costume) on swimming days.
  • Please do not phone the office to give your child a message unless it is an emergency.
  • Late-comer’s names are entered in the late-comer's register. This causes unnecessary stress for the children.
  • Please do not walk your child to the line in the morning. They need to become independent and walk in on their own. Please arrange a meeting place with them. They can meet you there after school.
  • Please make sure that your child learns to pack their own bag for school and takes responsibility for leaving books at home.
  • Please do not compare what your child does with another class. We all plan together and cover the same work.
  • Please make sure your child is in bed asleep by 20h30, if possible. We do understand that there may be circumstances that hamper this, at times.
  • Please be careful when you drive around the school, as children do sometimes run into the street.

We look forward to having a happy year with your children. Thank you for all your help and support. We really appreciate it. It is important that the parents and the school are in partnership to educate learners.
