THEORY OF MUSIC

Ons glo dat musiekonderrig in ons laerskool nie slegs bydra tot die daarstelling van 'n gesonde balans tussen die fisiese, akademiese en estetiese aspekte van die ontwikkeling van die leerder nie, maar ook dat die dissiplines wat daaraan verbonde is (intellektueel, fisies, opvoedkundig en kreatief), selfs op ander gebiede en in die kind se latere lewe 'n positiewe rol kan speel. Daarom probeer ons om in soveel behoeftes as moontlik te voorsien wat instrumentale onderrig betref, beide in die ernstige en ligte genres.

Aangesien ons glo aan heelskoolontwikkeling, is dit ook vir ons baie belangrik dat selfs diegene wat nie aan die instrumentale onderrigprogram kan deel hê nie, steeds in die Kuns en Kultuur leerarea so wyd as moontlik met die wêreld van musiek moet kennis maak Dit is hier waar daar ernstig gepoog word om die waarde van die estetiese, in ons elkeen se lewens, te beklemtoon asook die bydrae wat dit lewer tot die ontwikkeling van algemene lewensvaardighede.

Daar is tans 8 leerkragte aan ons skool se musiekdepartement verbonde. 'n Groot verskeidenheid van musiekaktiwiteite word aangebied.

Die leerders kry ook gereeld die kans om voor gehore op te tree tydens saalbyeenkomste en ons verskeie kamerkonserte deur die jaar.

Elke 3 tot 5 jaar bied die skool 'n musiekproduksie aan, waar die leerders die geleentheid kry om hulle spesiale talente in die uitvoerende kunste ten toon te stel en kan kennis maak met die teaterwêreld.

We believe that music tuition in our school not only contributes towards the establishment of a healthy balance between the physical, academic and aesthetic aspects of the development of our learners, but that the disciplines associated with it (intellectual, physical, educational and creative), can play a positive role in other spheres as well as in later life.

It is for this reason that we try to fulfil as many needs as possible as far as instrumental tuition is concerned, both in the serious and lighter genres. Due to the fact that we believe in whole school development, it is important to us that even those who cannot take part in the instrumental tuition program should be introduced to the world of music through the Arts and Culture learning area. It is here that we seriously attempt to emphasise the value of the aesthetic in our way of living as well as the way it contributes to the development of life skills in general. At the moment, we have eight educators on our music staff. A wide variety of musical activities are offered.

Opportunities to perform in front of an audience are offered during assemblies and at our different chamber concerts. Every three to five years the school stages a musical production where the learners are given the opportunity of demonstrating their special talents in the performing arts and are initiated into the world of show business.
