Recorder

Recorder lessons are a wonderful introduction to the world of instrumental instruction. Learners from grade 1-7 can take recorder as an instrument. Sight reading and Aural Training also receive attention during lessons. The recorder has many advantages:

  • It is an exceptionally versatile instrument and can be started at a relatively early age, compared with other wind instruments.
  • The cost is low and it is readily available in the widest variety of makes.
  • It is a handy, light and mobile instrument.
  • Recorder playing develops the ear, because it leads to the intensification and refinement of listening.
  • Students will learn the correct posture, breathing techniques and fingerings and music notation as they develop the repertoire.
  • It offers your child an opportunity to express themselves during the most creative time of their lives.
  • It offers your child a situation where goals are set and achieved, helping them learn that rewards are earned through practice and perseverance.
  • All the different sizes of recorders that are learned over the course of time are an investment – they need not be replaced.
  • It provides possibilities for ensemble playing.
  • There is a large repertoire of early, high Baroque and modern periods for solo work, accompanied works and ensemble music.

Lessons are 25 minutes (once or twice per week).

Music fees per term:

R 1032 (50 minutes per week)
