All swimmers who would like to be considered to represent the school during the 4th term must please attend COMPULSORY time-trials on the following days during the second last week this term (13 – 17 September 2010).
These times will be used to finalise team selections, namely A and B relay teams.
TIME-TRIALS

Thursday 16 Sept : 1.15-2.30pm (u7 + u8) ; 2.30-4.30pm (u12 + u14)
Friday 17 Sept : 1.15-2.00pm (u14)
NORMAL SCHOOL SWIMMING TRAINING will ONLY commence on Monday 4 October 2010. Please keep to your allocated level and time-slots.
Kenridge has been invited to a number of galas and unfortunately some of these cater for an A-team only. We will try, wherever possible, to split
some of the individual events so that more children are given the opportunity of swimming individual races. Having said that, however, the club swimmers are given ample opportunity to swim individual events in Club and WP hosted galas.
The aim of school swimming is to increase participation and to add to our swimming base, as well as improve upon strokes and technique.
Kenridge will also host a level 2 relay gala, when we will try our best to accommodate most of the swimmers and give them an opportunity to swim in a gala.
Many thanks
Lisa du Plessis and swimming coaches

Winners of Interhouse: Van der Stel U14 Boys Backstroke
Congratulations to the 2010 Kenridge Swimming Captains who were elected early in February: Rossouw Landman, Nicole Shand, Grant Nell and Josie Burness. There is a busy swimming season ahead and lots of work to be done!
The house swimming captains are:
Van Riebeeck : Franscious Marais + Shona Murray
Tulbagh : Arn Gericke + Sonja Groenewald
Van Der Stel : Daniel-Dean Ulyate + Jade Stephens
1. The season started off with our annual Interhouse Championship gala on Friday 5th February. We had a wonderful days swimming in perfect weather. One of the highlights was to see the u7’s swimming in two events and also to see the happy faces when the medals were presented.
Results were:
Junior Victrix (u7-u9) : Carla Hollander
Junior Victor (u7-u9) : Drew Bennett
Senior Victrix (u12-u13) : Nicole Shand
Senior Victor (u12-u13) : Rossouw Landman and Christoff Greyling
Congratulations to Van Der Stel who won for the second year running!
2. Senior Relay Gala : Thursday 11th February
Wow - what a great afternoon! The competition was very strong and eventually we managed to edge Rhenish out in the last race of the day when our boys won their ladder relay – giving Kenridge the WIN by 2 points! (so often in the past we have lost the gala in the last races!)
It was really nice to have our B relay team take part and 80 Kenridge swimmers took to the water - Well done to all the swimmers.
This is the first time that we have hosted these two schools and lets hope that it continues.
3. SASKO Long distance gala at Durbanville : Monday 15th February
This gala’s format is extremely individual and is probably more suited to regular Club swimmers. Kenridge again entered a B team and it was good exposure for the swimmers to longer distances. It was also great to see some of the B team swimmers come through and win medals! There were some excellent individual performances, namely: Rossouw Landman who earned KPS a lot of extra points with his records!
I have officially run out of superlatives…. Absolutely stunning…
Results were : Kenridge 232, Eversdal 228, Durbanville 219, Paarl Gim and Kenridge B 98 points.
Well done – we have the cup for another year!
4. KPS Junior Relay Gala : Thursday 18th February
This has to be the most entertaining gala on the calendar!
We had about 60 foundation phase children swimming – many of them for the first time. We entered an A and B relay team and had a wonderful afternoon with Durbanville Prep joining us. The coaches were VERY proud of the Kenridge swimmers and the progress that they have made – especially the u7’s!
We will definitely have another of these galas in the fourth term.
5. Kenridge internal Level 1 gala : Monday 22 February
Another successful afternoon! Level 1 swimmers (u8-u13) had the opportunity to show off at an enjoyable and low-key gala. The events were kick-board freestyle kicking (for the u8’s only), freestyle, backstroke, and we ended with some fun relays. Prizes were up for grabs and the parent support was great!
6. Evergala at Eversdal : Wednesday 24 February
We had a good afternoons swimming against strong competition!
Other schools competing were: Eversdal, De Hoop, Durbanville, and Paarl Gim. Eversdal ended on top and won their “Oink” trophy back from us! There were individual races and freestyle relays. I do understand that some parents are not keen to travel for their children to just take part in a relay – but school swimming is regarded as a team sport, and if everyone felt that way – we would not have a team!!
7. Boys Relay Gala at Beaumont : Thursday 25 February
A BIG THANK YOU to those parents who traveled to Beaumont and allowed their boys to take part in back to back galas!!
The boys had a lot of fun and competed well. KPS finished 3rd – a few points behind De Hoop and Beaumont and ended 1 point ahead of old rivals Somerset House followed by Somerset College.
A highlight was the boys winning the Ladder relay – the last race of the day!!
8. Kenridge Triangular Gala : Monday 1 March
Somerset House and SWPS joined us again and this year the individual strokes were Breaststroke and Backstroke. We had both individual and relay races and Kenridge again entered a B relay team in order to give more swimmers an opportunity. Medals were awarded for the individual events and a good afternoon was had by all. Somerset House won the gala, KPS 2nd and SWPS 3rd.
9. Kenridge Level 2 Relay Gala : Wednesday 3 March
This was a great gala despite the fact that Elkanah House did not arrive! Durbanville Primary joined us and also brought a B team.
Kenridge entered A, B and C teams! There was a lot of support and I think that we will try to have another of these in the fourth term. Close to 80 Kenridge children swam and really did extremely well.
The depth was visible and it was good to see the children competing!
Congratulations to the level 2 coaches – you are doing a wonderful job.
10. Rhenish Relay Gala : Tuesday 9th March
Off to Stellenbosch to face the parking problem of a life-time!
On the whole Kenridge did well and our u7’s and u8’s are looking good.
Well done to all the swimmers!
11. Beaumont Inter-schools Gala : Saturday 13th March
We ended the season with our interschools gala against Beaumont.
The format suited our hosts and next year we will be back to a relay gala at Kenridge. It was nice, however for some of our other swimmers to get individual events, but I do feel that Interschools should be as inclusive as possible seeing that it is our last gala of the term.
We started off with a bang in the Freestyle relays and Freestyle individual events, but lost a lot of points in the Beaststroke events – we seem to claw our way back, but it was not enough! Next year..!
SWIMMING IN THE 4TH TERM:
We will be starting off with trials – please check the bulletin and website for dates closer to the time.
There are about 8 galas planned so far – so keep swimming during the winter months!
A big thank you to the swimmers for their dedication and commitment shown during the first term. Also thanks to the parents who supported and provided transport to the galas. You are appreciated.
